Health and Safety – Have your say

12 September 2024

How is New Zealand’s health and safety regulatory system working for you? The Ministry of Business Innovation and Enterprise wants to hear about your experiences.

Feedback is sought up until 31 October 2024 on New Zealand’s work health and safety regulatory system: How do you think it’s working now? What do you think works well?  What do you think should change?

Your feedback will inform MBIE’s advice to Ministers on improvements they could make to the work health and safety system.

MBIE is seeking feedback with your views on:

  • how you make decisions about health and safety, the reasons behind these decisions, and their cost

  • whether you think the law strikes the right balance between flexibility and certainty – whether it’s too detailed in some cases, or not detailed or clear enough in others. We are also interested in your thoughts on the information sources you use

  • how your business or organisation engages with workers, how workers participate in health and safety, and the impact this has on health and safety

  • your experiences with health and safety regulators, and the third parties that act on behalf of the regulators or have other roles within the system

  • whether you think the work health and safety regulatory system is meeting its objective

MBIE says it also welcomes thoughts on any other aspect of the work health and safety regulatory system during this consultation period, which is open throughout September and October 2024.

Provide your feedback by 31 October in the online submission form here
