Recognising excellence among carpentry apprentices and raising awareness of career opportunities in the construction industry, the 2025 Master Builders CARTERS Apprentice of the Year starts here.
Apprentices assemble! Entries for the 2025 competition open on 7 March.
The Master Builders Apprentice of the Year, in partnership with CARTERS, is the leading apprentice competition for the building and construction sector and the hunt is on to find this year’s best.
The event recognises excellence among carpentry apprentices and raises awareness of career opportunities in the building and construction industry. Apprentices are the sector’s future leaders, and the competition will test project management, business and presentation skills, as well as those all-important practical skills.
The competition has been running for 22 years and looks to test several aspects of a well-rounded apprentice, not just their skills on the tools.
Last year’s winning apprentice was Hunter Moon, from the Waikato region. Hunter was awarded the 2024 Registered Master Builders CARTERS Apprentice of the Year title, with second place going to Daniel Smith from Auckland, and Adam Harford from Canterbury placing third.
The competition is open to:
-
Carpentry apprentices of all ages
-
You don't have to work for a Master Builder
-
You can be trained by any appropriate training provider
-
The length of time entrants need to have been an apprentice has been reduced to 18 months, down from two years. For full details, check out the new term & conditions.
