House of the Year 2025 – regional winners revealed

Standout builders from nearly 300 entries across seven regions have received honours in the regional rounds of this year’s Master Builders House of the Year competition.

Representing ‘the highest standards of craftsmanship our country has to offer’, the Master Builders House of the Year competition showcases the best in residential building across New Zealand, celebrating excellence in design, craftsmanship, and construction. And regional winners have been named, ahead of this year’s national winners being announced. 

Chief Executive Officer of Master Builders Ankit Sharma said, “House of the Year continues to showcase the skill and innovation of our Master Builders members. These homes represent the highest standards of craftsmanship our country has to offer – whether it’s a bespoke renovation, a volume-built home, or a high-end new build. 

“This year’s entries reflect the full breadth of our membership talent, with outstanding work across a range of price points and project types. From precision detailing to sustainable materials and smart design, our members are leading the way in building quality homes that meet the needs of New Zealanders today and into the future.”

 

Regional winners - Auckland

An exceptionally executed home in Bream Tail, Mangawhai Heads built by Smith Construction has been named Supreme House of the Year Over $1 million at the 2025 Auckland, Northland and Coromandel Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

The judges remarked that the subtle and sophisticated design created a calm, refined presence that respected both, site and setting, while maximising views and light throughout. They also won the New Home over $4 million category, Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, Outdoor Living Excellence Award and a Gold. 

A remarkable renovation by Stark Building at Milldale, Auckland has taken top honours at the 2025 Auckland, Northland and Coromandel House of the Year Awards, winning Supreme House of the Year under $1 million. The project showcases attention to detail from the ground up, according to judges.   

CARTERS Glenfield customer Maddren Homes was also a category winner who will now head on to the national finals, after winning the GIB Show Home prize. Other winners on the night were CARTERS Glenfield customers: Element, QPC, Norx and Miro. 

Fellow CARTERS customer, this time from the St Lukes branch, to win a regional gong was customer is Zane Coppins/Coppins Construction, taking out the $500,000 - $1 million renovation category. 

Southern Region 

A breath-taking Queenstown home constructed by Velvin Building has been awarded the Supreme House of the Year over $1 million at the 2025 Southern Master Builders House of the Year Awards. The team also took out four additional awards including, Resene New Home $2 million - $4 million category, Mitre 10 Trade Craftsmanship Award, APL Environmental and Sustainable Excellence Award and a Gold Award. 

RDR Builders walked away with the Supreme House of Year under $1 million, Altus Window Systems New Home $750,000 - $1 million category and a Gold Award for a home in Invercargill.  

The Southern Region Supreme Renovation of the Year Award was won by Howe Construction for a beautiful penthouse in Queenstown. The builder also won the Renovation Over $2 million category and a Gold Award for the same build.  

Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau  

An exceptionally executed home in Kinloch, Taupō built by Beck Building has been named Supreme House of the Year Over $1 million at the 2025 Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau Master Builders House of the Year Awards. The judges highlighted the build’s precision, material detailing, and collaborative delivery, noting it excelled across all key criteria. The project also received the New Home $1.5–$2 million category, the Kitchen Excellence Award, and a Gold Award. 

Canterbury 

Steve Brown Builders’ beautiful home in Redcliffs, Christchurch has been named Supreme House of the Year over $1 million at the 2025 Canterbury Master Builders House of the Year Awards. The project also received awards for the New Home over $4 million category, the Kitchen Excellence Award, the McKenzie & Willis Interior Design Award, and a Gold Award. 

Central North Island  

A standout Hastings home by Davcon has been awarded the Supreme House of the Year over $1 million at this year’s 2025 Central North Island Master Builders House of the Year Awards. The home took out multiple award wins, including the coveted Mitre 10 Trade Craftsmanship Award, New Home over $4 million category, Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, Outdoor Living Excellence Award, and a Gold Award.
