Unique in celebrating everyone involved in bringing amazing building projects to life across Aotearoa, judging is now taking place in the Registered Master Builders’ Commercial Project Awards

“Great buildings do not happen without great teams,” is the tagline behind the Registered Master Builder Commercial Project Awards, unique in celebrating everyone involved in bringing amazing building projects to life across Aotearoa.

Judging is currently underway across the country on projects large and small. Value Awards recognise the achievements of projects across a range of price brackets, with the CARTERS Commercial Project Award being among the 20-plus categories up for grabs.

This category is for office and business spaces that are not retail in nature, taking in buildings that are considered places of work in both the public and private sectors including repair, renovation or alteration of the same.

Last year’s national winner in this category was The Dunlop Hub, which not only serves as construction company Dunlop Builders' new headquarters but also as a pioneering model for future commercial buildings, balancing modernity with environmental responsibility. The project's architectural complexity, such as integrating a box within a shed design and installing oversized, triple-glazed European windows, showcases the precision and expertise required to meet aesthetic and functional goals. The build achieved Passive House Plus certification — a first for a New Zealand office building.

Other award categories include Civic Project, SpecAdvisor Education Project, Altus Windows Systems Health Project, Heritage and Restoration Project, Industrial Project, Tourism and Leisure Project, Commercial Fit Out Project, Retail Project, and Winstone Wallboards Residential Project.

All entries are automatically considered for additional awards such as the Innovation Award, and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards – under and over $10 million.

Supreme winners in last year’s competition were Whangārei Civic Centre in the over $10 million category, a win for Canam Commercial. And in the under $10 million category, the Arup project took top honours with a goal to be the most sustainable workplace in Aotearoa New Zealand for entrant, Unispace.

The 2025 Awards Gala will be held at the Viaduct Events Centre, Auckland on 16 May. Dress code is black tie and tickets cost $299 plus GST each.
