This is your opportunity to input into Building Product Specifications, one of three new pathways increasing the range of products for use across New Zealand.
![]()
The Building Product Specifications is one of three new pathways being implemented to enable a greater range of building products to be used more easily in New Zealand, says MBIE, as it seeks feedback on proposed product standards to be included.
Products that comply with a standard cited in the Building Product Specifications and are used in building work that complies with an acceptable solution or verification method, must be accepted by building consent authorities. These must be used as intended and within the scope of the relevant acceptable solution or verification method.
The new draft of the Building Product Specifications contains additional standards and specifications for:
- wall bracing elements
- sound insulation
- fire doors and fire resisting glazing.
Have your say
This is your opportunity to have input into the Building Product Specifications.
MBIE are keen to get your feedback on the standards and other references that are proposed to be included, as well as your thoughts on further standards for future inclusion in the Building Product Specifications.
Submissions for the consultation close at 5pm, Monday 9 February 2026.
